Things to Remember

Every day, children need to bring in a named water bottle and if they would like to, they may bring in a piece of fruit or a vegetable for a snack at playtime. 

 

Children will need to bring their reading books into school every day.

 

Year 6 have a PE lesson each Thursday. We ask that children wear PE kits to school on this day.

Swimming lessons for Year 6 will be each Friday from 11th September - 23rd October. 

 Home Learning

Throughout their time in Year 6, children are expected to engage in a variety of home learning activities which support them in knowing more and remembering more of the content we teach. It is also an opportunity for our pupils to develop their independent study skills in preparation for secondary school.

 

All children will be set an English and Maths task each week which they will complete in their Maths or English CGP books. For English, children will be set two pages based on grammar learning that they have covered in school. For Maths, children will need to complete two pages based on Maths content we have covered.

Home Learning will be set on a Friday and will need to be brought back to school on the following Thursday at the latest. An in-app message will be sent to share homework pages. 

Children have access to the online learning platform Times Tables Rock Stars where they will be able to practise and develop their Maths skills. Their login is in their Maths CGP book. 

Reading: 

We would really appreciate your continued support in encouraging your child to read regularly at home. This might mean reading independently, sharing a book together, listening to someone else read, talking about a story, visiting the library or simply enjoying a book before bedtime. Every opportunity to read is valuable.

Reading books need to be brought into school every day so that we can support and monitor your child's reading progress. Books must be returned before a new book can be chosen.

 SATs

At the end of Year 6, children are assessed in a series of tests known as SATs. In May 2027, Year 6 pupils will complete separate tests covering topics taught in English and Maths during their time in KS2 (Y3-6). These will begin on Monday 10^th May 2027 and will end on Thursday 13^th May 2027. The tests include:

 

Maths:

Paper 1- Arithmetic.

This paper looks at children's ability to answer of range of questions, often using formal written methods.

 

Paper 2 and 3 – Reasoning

These papers require children to apply their mathematical knowledge to solve problems.

 

English:

Reading Paper

Children will be given three extracts from texts and will be expected to answer a range of questions which show their comprehension skills.

 

Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar: Paper 1 and Paper 2

Children will sit a paper testing their understanding of spelling, punctuation and grammar from KS2 and will also complete a spelling test consisting of 20 words.

 

As the year progresses, children may bring home study books/packs to help consolidate their learning, as well as providing important preparation for their SATs in May.
